Tips for being “green”
- Recycle
- Buy Energy Star appliances
- Use cloth napkins instead of paper
- Use cloth rags instead of paper towels
- Change all possible light bulbs in your home to LED or CFL
- Install programmable thermostats
- Avoid Styrofoam whenever possible for anything
- Limit dry cleaning
- Unplug electronics such as the coffee pot or chargers whenever possible. When on vacation unplug TV, computers, or other electronics
- Check the efficiency of your HVAC, duct work and insulation
- Shop for products grown locally
- Consider “green” products whenever you remodel
- Don’t run water while you brush your teeth or shaving
- Use canvas totes instead of plastic grocery bags
- Use “green” cleaning products
- Keep your car in good running order including proper tire inflation
- Fix broken sprinkler heads and leaky faucets
- Maintain good landscaping practices to prevent damage to your home and conserve on cost of water and replacements
